Soumyadeep, Sumit guide Nagaon to first win
Published on Aug 9
GUWAHATI: Nagaon Rangers produced a dominant display in the Assam Premier League on Sunday evening, thrashing Charaideo Sunrisers by 10 wickets at the ACA Stadium.
The Rangers' opening pair of Soumyadeep Das and Sumit Kashyap put on a commanding batting exhibition, chasing down a target of 140 in just 13.2 overs without losing a wicket.
Opting to field first, Nagaon Rangers made an immediate impact, dismissing Pradyun Saikia off the second ball of the innings. Sumit Ghadigaonkar followed soon after for 8, leaving Charaideo Sunrisers struggling at 32/2 inside the powerplay.
Hrishikesh Tamuly then steadied the innings with a composed 40 off 36 balls, keeping the scoreboard moving as wickets continued to fall at the other end. Charaideo found some late momentum through Himanshu Saraswat, who smashed an unbeaten 26 off just 13 deliveries, including three sixes, to help his side reach 139/9 in their allotted 20 overs.
For Rangers, Bhargav Dutta was the pick of the bowlers with 3/18, while Rahul Singh, Sunil Lachit and Jitu Ali claimed two wickets apiece.
The chase, however, turned into a one-sided affair almost immediately. Rangers' openers took complete control, attacking the Sunrisers' bowling from the outset and never allowing them an opportunity to fight their way back into the contest.
Soumyadeep was particularly destructive, smashing an unbeaten 70 off just 36 balls with five fours and six sixes. At the other end, Kashyap provided equally assured support, finishing unbeaten on 66 off 44 deliveries, with two fours and six maximums.
None of Charaideo's six bowlers could find a breakthrough as Nagaon Rangers raced to the target in 13.2 overs to complete a resounding 10-wicket victory.
The emphatic win was Rangers' first of the season and also the first 10-wicket victory of the 2026 Assam Premier League.
