GUWAHATI: The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) on Tuesday inaugurated a state-of-the-art cricket ground and pavilion at Naharkatia, marking a significant step towards strengthening cricket infrastructure beyond the state's traditional centres.
Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the facility in the presence of BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, ACA President Taranga Gogoi and other dignitaries.
The newly developed complex features five centre pitches, a fully furnished pavilion with rooms for match officials and players' dressing rooms, practice facilities and infrastructure suitable for hosting domestic cricket matches.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Sarma described the inauguration as a new beginning for Naharkatia and expressed hope that the facility would help aspiring cricketers pursue their ambitions.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia underscored the importance of developing cricket infrastructure beyond Guwahati and other established centres, noting that the Naharkatia facility would strengthen the grassroots cricket pathway in Upper Assam.
The project is part of the ACA's broader efforts to establish a wider and more inclusive cricketing network across the state, with a focus on improving facilities and providing professional training opportunities to players beyond the established cricket centres.
