GUWAHATI: Former world champion Zinedine Zidane has been appointed head coach of the French national team. The former Real Madrid coach is the third player from France's 1998 World Cup-winning generation to take the post.
His name had been the obvious choice for months, and the announcement is now official. The Les Bleus legend has signed a four-year contract until the end of his term. Zidane replaces Didier Deschamps, who stepped down from the role after leading France to a fourth-place finish at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The former Real Madrid coach has massive shoes to fill, with Deschamps having guided France to World Cup glory in Russia in 2018 before taking the team to the final four years later in Qatar.
