GUWAHATI: Defending champions NorthEast United FC will look to continue their impressive start to the 135th IndianOil Durand Cup when they face Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC in their second Group F fixture at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium here on Saturday. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
The Highlanders currently lead Group F with three points and have an opportunity to tighten their grip on the top spot as they continue the defence of their Durand Cup title.
NorthEast United could hardly have asked for a better start to their campaign, registering a resounding 6-0 victory over Bodoland FC in their opening match. Alaaeddine Ajaraie starred with a superb hat-trick, while Lalrinzuala, Redeem Tlang and Antonio Moyano also found the scoresheet in a dominant all-round performance.
The victory showcased the Highlanders' attacking flair, defensive solidity and relentless intensity—hallmarks of head coach Juan Pedro Benali's side. Besides collecting all three points, the emphatic win also gave NorthEast United the best goal difference in the group, placing them in an early position of strength.
Saturday's encounter, however, promises to be a different challenge. NorthEast United FC will face Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC for the first time in a competitive fixture, adding an element of intrigue to the contest.
Carrying strong momentum into the match, the Highlanders will be aiming to secure back-to-back victories, consolidate their position at the top of Group F and move a step closer to the knockout stage.
