BILASIPARA: Goalpara began their campaign in the 26th Senior Women's Inter-District Football Championship for the Gobinda Ram Mour and Banarashi Devi Memorial Trophy 2026-27 in emphatic fashion, thrashing Udalguri 7-0 in the tournament opener here on Sunday.
Papori Ray and Dimpi Rabha starred with hat-tricks as Goalpara completely dominated the contest from start to finish.
Papori put Goalpara ahead in the sixth minute and struck again just a minute later to give her side a 2-0 lead. She completed her hat-trick in the 56th minute. Dimpi Rabha also netted three goals, scoring in the 40th, 46th and 67th minutes, while Junmoni Rabha rounded off the scoring with a goal in the 80th minute.
Earlier, a brief opening ceremony was held at the venue. Local MLA Jibesh Roy attended as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the championship. Dr. Prety Lekha Deka, Co-District Commissioner, along with officials of the Assam Football Association and Bilasipara Sports Association, were also present on the occasion.
