Khelo India ASMITA Hockey League begins

Online Staff/ GUWAHATI, Mar 20: The Khelo India ASMITA State Hockey League kicked off at the Maulana Mohammad Tayabullah Hockey Stadium at Bhetapara in the city on Thursday. The tournament was inaugurated by DK Mittal, Executive Director, SAI Guwahati Center in presence of Pradeep Timung, Director, Sports and Youth Welfare Department, Assam, and Assam Hockey Secretary Tapan Das,who is also the Senior representative of Hockey India Executive Board.
Eight teams in the junior category and an equal number of teams in the sub-junior category are participating in the tournament. The participating districts are: Naharkatia, Dhemaji, Bangaigaon, Makum, Nagaon, Silchar, Bhergaon and Tezpur.The participating teams will be divided into two groups and league matches will be played first. The top two teams in the group will qualify for the semi-finals.The junior final will be played on March 23 while the sub-junior final will be played on March 26. Brief results: Naharkatia beat Bongaigaon 18-0, Nagaon beat Bhergaon 14-0, Tezpur beat Silchar 4-0 and Makum beat Dhemaji 3-0.
