Elite Veterans win RP Barooah cricket title

Online Staff/ GUWAHATI, Jan 12: Elite Veterans produced a composed all-round performance to clinch the 2nd R.P. Barooah Memorial Masters T20 Cricket Tournament, defeating NFRSA Veterans by five wickets at Mangaldoi on Monday.
After winning the toss, NFRSA Veterans opted to bat first and posted 129 runs losing all wickets in 19 overs. The innings was anchored by Abhay Rai, who played a fine knock of 50 off 30 balls, smashing four boundaries and three sixes. He received good support from Parag Das, who contributed a solid 42 off 32 balls with eight fours. For Elite Veterans, Tarjinder Singh was the standout bowler, claiming 4 wickets for 26 runs, while Imtaz Hussain chipped in with 3 for 23, restricting NFRSA to a modest total.
In reply, Elite Veterans chased down the target comfortably, reaching 130 for 5 in 18.3 overs. Skipper Tarjinder Singh once again led from the front with the bat, scoring a crucial 44 off 33 balls, which included three fours and two sixes. Dipjyoti Debnath added 23 runs, while Rajiv Kalita finished the chase in style with an unbeaten 18 off just 8 deliveries. Santosh Singh was the pick of the bowlers for NFRSA Veterans, taking 2 wickets for 11 runs.
Tarjinder Singh was adjudged Player of the Match for his outstanding all-round performance. Abhay Rai of NFRSA Veterans was named Player of the Tournament, while Dipjyoti Debnath won the Best Batter award. The Best Bowler award went to Alongba Pongen of ESA Veterans, Dimapur, Rajit Ali was named Best Wicketkeeper, and Parag Das received the Best Fielder award. .
