Riyan appointed captain of Rajasthan Royals

Online Staff/ GUWAHATI, Feb 13: Rajasthan Royals have named Riyan Parag as their new captain ahead of IPL 2026.
A product of the Royals’ system and one of the franchise’s longest-serving Indian players, Riyan has been with the team since IPL 2019. Over the years, he has grown from a teenage recruit into a key figure in the dressing room. He now steps into the captaincy role with valuable leadership experience at the highest level.
Expressing his thoughts on the appointment, Riyan said that Rajasthan Royals has been his home in the IPL from the very beginning. He added that the franchise has supported and developed him every season, and leading the side is a special responsibility he is proud to accept. He also said he looks forward to working closely with the coaches and leadership group to play fearless and smart cricket and make the fans proud.
Head Coach Kumar Sangakkara praised Riyan’s growth, describing him as a high-impact player and a strong presence in the squad. He said Riyan has shown calmness under pressure, a sharp cricketing mind, and a clear understanding of the team’s approach. Sangakkara added that Riyan already has the respect of the dressing room and expressed confidence that he will succeed in his new role.
