Chhaygaon FC crowned Premier League title

Online Staff/ GUWAHATI, June 10: Chhaygaon FC clinched the Assam State Premier League Football Championship title in style, defeating Eleven Star Club of Bongaigaon 4-0 in a one-sided final held at Dhakukhana on Tuesday. The winners went into halftime with a comfortable 2-0 lead and maintained their dominance throughout the match.
A relatively new entrant to Assam’s football scene, Chhaygaon FC was established in 2024 but has quickly made its mark under the guidance of veteran coach Santanu Basu. The team’s solid performance throughout the tournament continued in the final, where they showcased impressive skill and coordination.
Chhaygaon FC wasted no time in taking control of the game. Just two minutes after kickoff, Surchandra Singh opened the scoring. Eight minutes later, Khaigunlen Kipgen doubled the lead, putting the team firmly in command early in the match.
The second half saw no let-up from Chhaygaon. Kipgen struck again in the 62nd minute, all but sealing the outcome with his second goal of the day. Surchandra Singh rounded off the scoring in the 87th minute, netting his second and Chhaygaon's fourth.
Despite their best efforts, Eleven Star Club struggled to convert their chances and failed to find the back of the net. They created a few opportunities but lacked the finishing touch needed to pose a serious threat.
