World Cup debut very special: Uma

Online Staff/ GUWAHATI, Nov 6: Assam’s young cricketer Uma Chetry expressed her delight at being part of India’s World Cup-winning women’s cricket team, following her debut appearance in the tournament.
Uma made her debut in the game against Bangladesh.
The cricketer, who hails from Golaghat, shared her thoughts during an interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday. Indian women cricket team on Wednesday met Prime Minister and also presented him a jersey of Team India.
Initially appearing nervous, Uma admitted, “I don’t know what to say in front of you, sir,” before gaining confidence after the Prime Minister encouraged her to speak freely.
Speaking on her debut, Uma said, “It’s a wonderful feeling for me. Making a debut for India is always special, but doing it in a World Cup makes it even more memorable. The support from my teammates has been incredible.”
Speaking about her future aspirations, Uma said she aims to contribute more to the national side. “I want to play many more matches for India and will give my best to bring more laurels to the country,” she added.
