Riyan sends special message to APL participants
Online Staff/ GUWAHATI, Aug 14: With the inaugural Assam Premier League (APL) set to open a new chapter in the state's cricketing landscape, Riyan Parag has urged young cricketers of Assam to view the tournament as a stepping stone towards bigger opportunities. The Assam batter, who has established himself on the national stage, believes the league can provide players with a valuable platform to showcase not only their skills but also their attitude and commitment towards the game.
Parag said the APL should not be seen as just another domestic competition. Instead, it offers players a chance to perform in front of a wider audience and attract attention from across the country. “This isn’t just another tournament. Scouts, franchises and people from across the country will be keeping an eye on you and this league,” he said.
Emphasising the importance of discipline and the right mindset, Parag pointed out that talent alone cannot guarantee success. “Talent is expected; what stands out is your attitude, your discipline and the way you compete,” he said.
He also advised players to respect the game, support their teammates, and maintain professionalism both on and off the field.
For those aspiring to play in bigger leagues, Parag believes the APL can be the starting point of their journey. “This is where you start proving that you belong,” he said.
The auction for the first edition of the APL is scheduled for July 19, while the tournament will begin on August 1 at the ACA Stadium, Barsapara. The auction will finalise the teams for the inaugural season, giving several uncapped Assam cricketers their first major opportunity to be noticed by franchise owners, scouts, and the wider cricketing community.
