Vidarbha beat Assam by 8 wickets
Online Staff/GUWAHATI, Nov 29: Assam faced their first defeat of the season in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, succumbing to an 8-wicket loss against Vidarbha in Visakhapatnam on Friday.
Invited to bat first, Assam struggled from the outset, losing both openers for just 8 runs. Captain Denish Das attempted to steady the innings with a knock of 31, which included four boundaries and a six, but didn’t support too much support from the other end. Sibsankar Roy (22) and Saahil Jain (20) were the only other notable contributors, as Assam were bowled out for 123 in 19.1 overs.
Vidarbha's bowlers, led by Dipesh Parwani (3/23), put on a disciplined performance. Yash Thakur and Parth Rekhade chipped in with two wickets each.
Chasing 124, Vidarbha comfortably reached the target in just 14 overs, losing two wickets. Opener Karun Nair starred with an unbeaten 75, while Mandar Mahale remained not out on 31. Assam's Mukhtar Hussain and Avinov Choudhury picked up one wicket each, but it was not enough to stop Vidarbha's march to victory.
