Assam women clinch series against Namibia
Online Staff/GUWAHATI, Jan 11: Assam women’s team sealed the Senior Women Friendly Cricket Series with an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Namibia Seniors in the final match at Assam Cricket Academy ground in Fulung on Sunday, completing a 2–0 series win.
Namibia, after winning the toss, elected to bat but were dismissed for 118 in 31.1 overs. Sune Wittmann top-scored with a well-made 58, while Wilka Mwatile contributed 19 and Yasmeen Khan added 18. Assam’s bowlers kept tight control throughout the innings, with Gayatri Gurung and Priyanka Kalita claiming three wickets apiece, while Jintimoni Kalita picked up two.
Assam didn’t face any trouble tp chase down the target, reaching 119 for 2 in 22.1 overs. Gayatri Gurung, also performed well with the bat, remained unbeaten on 54 to anchor the chase, while Rashmi Dey provided solid support with an unbeaten 34.
Assam earlier won the first match of the series by 98 runs at Mangaldoi on Saturday.
The prize distribution ceremony was attended by BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia as the chief guest, alongside ACA President Taranga Gogoi, ACA Secretary Sanatan Das, Vice President Romen Dutta, and other officials of the association.
Gayatri Gurung of Assam bagged the Player of the Final, Best Batter, and Player of the Series awards. Saima Tuhadeleni of Namibia was adjudged the Best Bowler of the series after picking up four wickets across the two matches.
