Bud Cricket Club clinch APCC title
Online Staff/ GUWAHATI, Feb 17: Bud Cricket Club clinched the Assam Premier Club Championship (Guwahati Leg) title on the basis of their first-innings lead against City Cricket Club in the final at Judges’ Field on Tuesday.
The match was highlighted by a century from Sanjay Kumar Singh and a hat-trick by Robi Chetry.
Resuming the final day at 202/3, Bud’s overnight batters Sanjay Singh and skipper Swarupam Purkayastha added 50 more runs to strengthen their position. Purkayastha narrowly missed his century, scoring 96 off 98 balls with 14 boundaries and a six. Sanjay Singh completed a well-crafted 108 off 174 deliveries, hitting 12 fours.
Anurag Talukdar and Kaushik Giri then shared a valuable 63-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Anurag remained unbeaten on 61 (7x4, 2x6), while Kaushik contributed 31 runs as Bud posted 361 in their first innings.
Robi Chetry was the standout performer for City, claiming six wickets, including a hat-trick. He dismissed Rohit Singh, Krishna Choudhury and Pushparaj Sharma off successive deliveries towards the end of the innings.
In reply, trailing by 249 runs, City Cricket Club struggled in their second innings and were 80/5 when the match ended. Rohit Singh took three wickets and Pushparaj Sharma picked up two. Rahul Hazarika was the top scorer for City with 22 runs.
Swarupam Purkayastha was named Player of the Final. Robi Chetry received the Highest Wicket-Taker award and was also adjudged Player of the Tournament, while Dhruv Raj Borah (GTC) won the Highest Run-Getter award.
Bud Cricket Club received Rs 1.5 lakh as champions, while City Cricket Club were awarded Rs 1 lakh.
Rajinder Singh, Joint Secretary of the Assam Cricket Association, attended the prize distribution ceremony along with other officials.
Both teams have qualified for the Intra-Zonal Round (Headquarter Zone) beginning February 24 in Guwahati.
