Riyan to lead RR in first 3 IPL matches

Online Staff, GUWAHATI, March 20 : In a historic moment for Northeast cricket, Assam’s very own Riyan Parag will captain Rajasthan Royals for their first three matches of IPL 2025. The franchise made this decision as current captain Sanju Samson not yet cleared for wicket-keeping and fielding due to injury.
This marks the first time a player from Assam will lead an IPL team, a significant achievement for the region. The dynamic all-rounder, who has been a key player for Rajasthan Royals, will take the reins for the team’s opening match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 23, followed by two home games in Guwahati against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders on March 26 and Chennai Super Kings on March 30.
With Samson still recovering and not yet cleared for wicket-keeping and fielding, he will focus on contributing with the bat while continuing his recovery. The franchise has placed its trust in Riyan Parag’s leadership, a role he has earned through his experience as the captain of Assam’s domestic team.
