SAI Women and SSA Men win titles
Online Staff/GUWAHATI, Dec 2: A thrilling display of boxing prowess unfolded over three days at the All Assam Inter District Elite Boxing Championship that culminated at the SAI Sports Complex in the city on Monday. Sports Authority of India (SAI) dominated the women’s category, while the State Sports Academy (SSA) claimed top honors in the men’s division.
The competition featured intense bouts across nine men’s and eight women’s categories. Finals of all the events held on Monday
SAI Dominance in Women's category:
SAI’s women’s team emerged victorious, clinching 7 medals: 4 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze. This performance placed them at the top of the women’s medal tally, ahead of NF Railway, which secured second place with 4 medals.
Tight Battle in Men's category:
In the men’s section, SSA and Assam Police both secured four medals, but SSA’s haul of 2 gold and 2 silver medals outshone Assam Police’s 1 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze to finish at top spot.
All gold medallists ensured their berth in Assam team which will participate in the Senior Elite National Boxing Championship, set to take place next month.
Closing Ceremony and Guests:
The event concluded with a grand ceremony attended by Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain as the chief guest. Other notable dignitaries included Ashok Bharali (Treasurer, Assam Olympic Association), Dhrubajyoti Maral (Vice Chairman, Food and Civil Supply Corporation), Hemanta Kalita (Secretary, Assam Amateur Boxing Association). And several prominent sports organizers such as Anup Choudhury, Rajib Prakash Baruah, Kalyam Gogoi, and Bishnuram Nunisa were also present.
Gold Medalists: Men’s-Gourav Mazumdar (47-50kg), Bibek Mazumdar (50-55 kg), Bulen Buragohain (55-60kg), Rantu Moran (60-65 kg), Abhinab Saikia (65-70kg), Bijay Deka (70-75 kg), Manab Talukdar (75-80kg), Tonmoy Dowarah (80-85 kg) and Kharanda Regon (85-90 kg).
Women’s-Kampi Boro (45-48kg), Saraswati Boro (45-48kg), Aroti Doley (51-54 kg), Sumitra Brahma (54-57 kg), Manju Basumatary (57-60 kg), Ankushita Boro (60-65 kg), Pwilao Basumatary (70-75 kg) and Bhagyabati Kachari (80-80+kg).
