Haryana respond well to Assam total

Online Staff/GUWAHATI, Jan 23: Haryana seized the initiative on the second day of their Ranji Trophy encounter against Assam, ending Friday’s play in a strong position at North Guwahati on Friday.
Responding to Assam’s first-innings total of 247, Haryana reached 164 for 3 at stumps, with opener Yuvraj Singh anchoring the innings on an unbeaten 70. The visitors trail by just 83 runs with seven wickets still in hand.
Haryana’s reply began confidently as Yuvraj and fellow opener Ankit Kumar laid a solid foundation, stitching together a 75-run stand for the first wicket. Ankit played a fluent knock, scoring 50 off just 50 deliveries, including eight fours and a six, before being dismissed.
Yuvraj then continued to steady the innings, adding 64 runs for the third wicket with Dheeru Singh, who contributed 25. Showing patience and composure, Yuvraj occupied the crease for 128 balls and struck eight boundaries in his unbeaten knock. He was joined by Tanmoy Balada (1) when play was called off for the day.
Earlier in the morning session, Assam resumed on 187 for 6 and were bowled out for 247 in 118.3 overs. Rituraj Biswas stood firm at one end, remaining unbeaten on 53 after facing 165 balls and hitting eight boundaries. He also featured in a crucial 35-run partnership for the ninth wicket with Deepjyoti Saikia, which helped Assam push their total past 240.
Haryana’s bowlers shared the spoils, with Anshul Kamboj returning impressive figures of 4 for 35. He was well supported by Aman Kumar, who claimed 3 for 35, while Tanmoy Balada chipped in with 2 for 53.
