ACA honours Uma with cash reward
Online Staff/GUWAHATI, Nov 9: Celebrating one of Assam’s proudest sporting moments, the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) on Sunday felicitated Uma Chetry — a key member of India’s ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025-winning squad — with a cash reward of Rs 51 lakh for her outstanding achievement.
The event took place at the 91 Yards Club auditorium inside the ACA Stadium complex, where BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The event was also attended by ACA President Taranga Gogoi, Vice-President Romen Dutta, Joint Secretary Rajendra Singh, Treasurer Anupam Deka, Apex Council member Mukuta Nanada Bhattacharya, and several other dignitaries.
In addition to the ACA’s recognition, several affiliated district units and state sports associations joined in felicitating Uma for her historic accomplishment.
Addressing the gathering, Saikia lauded Uma’s journey from grassroots cricket in Assam to the global stage. “Uma’s achievement is a source of immense pride not just for Assam but for the entire Northeast. Her story is one of perseverance, passion, and purpose. The BCCI is fully committed to empowering women’s cricket across all regions of India,” he said.
ACA President Taranga Gogoi echoed the sentiment, calling Uma’s success “a defining moment for Assam cricket.” He added, “Uma has made history as the first woman cricketer from Assam to lift a World Cup. Her dedication and discipline are an inspiration for countless young talents across the state.”
Meanwhile Assam Cabinet on Sunday also approved Rs 25 lakh for Uma.
